Horizon 2020 (H2020) is the main funding instrument for Research and Innovation (R&I) of the European Union available for each of the 28 Member States, as well as for other countries. This program has a global budget of about 80 billion Euros for R&I projects and initiatives between 2014 and 2020, which will leverage private investment for specific initiatives. This programme implements the Innovation Union, a flagship initiative of the Europe 2020 strategy, which aims to guarantee Europe's global competitiveness focusing on Innovation. Horizon 2020 reflects the political priorities of the Europe 2020 strategy and is organized in three pillars which mutually reinforce one another (global frame): Excellent Science | Industrial Leadership | Societal Challenges. |
